Yorkshire is a historic county in North England and is the largest county in the UK. Due to the county's size, Yorkshire is divided into North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire. York is the traditional capital of Yorkshire and is rich in medieval history, whilst Leeds is the new capital, boasting a thriving cultural scene, excellent shopping facilities and nightlife.
The emblem of Yorkshire is the white rose of the English royal House of York, most commonly seen on a flag with a dark blue background. Famous for it's Yorkshire Dales, an area of outstanding natural beauty, the countryside of Yorkshire has acquired the nickname of "God's Own County". Most of the Yorkshire Dales falls within the 'Yorkshire Dales District National Park', a national park which was established in 1954 and has a total area of 680 square miles.
The Travellers Guide to Yorkshire have divided our information about tourist attractions into the regions of East Yorkshire/ East Riding, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.
