I stayed at the George Hotel for a long weekend mid May, 2012. Check-in was conducted in a very efficient and friendly manner and my room (a double although I was travelling solo) was large and comfortable with a good en suite bathroom with a large bath and ample hot water. I actually prefer to shower and although there was a showering attachment to the bath taps there was no shower curtain. The bar and lounge areas were comfortable with a good choice of well kept real ales as well as the usual brewery fodder. I stayed on the hotel's half board tariff and the food both at dinner and breakfast was consistently good and well served by the George's friendly staff. The hotel is situated opposite the village square but parking is a doddle with no apparent restrictions anywhere just in case you can't find a space either at the front of the hotel or in their rear car park. Easingwold is well situated for visiting the various attractions in the area and the York 'park and ride, scheme is excellent. In short, a well run hotel and well worth a visit. I will be returning.

We have stayed at the George on several previous occasions and find it's location ideal when visiting Easingwold. The rooms are comforable and well appointed. Breakfasts are excellent and staff are obliging. The hotel bar is a pleasant place to enjoy a pint, eiter inside, or outside overlooking the town square market place. Overall a very comforable and relaxing place to stay.

This was our second visit to the George at Easingwold and it did not disappoint. As previously Kay and Michael were very welcoming and informative. Our room was well looked after and comfortable. The food was extremely good with a wide range of choices and specials to tempt any palate, cooked and presented to a high standard. In addition there is a variety of beers and wines from which to choose. The hotel exudes a warm and pleasant atmosphere ideal for meeting with friends and enjoying the company of other guests.

Good location and well equipped hotel but the point that makes it stand out is the service. Staff know what they are supposed to be doing, do it well and use a bit of common sense when they need to. Not hide bound by the policies and procedures of major hotel chains that stifle staff initiative.

I had stopped at the George for morning coffee during a business trip to Northallerton, and promised myself that one day we would arrange a short trip. We decided to book a short pre-Christmas break and invite two of our friends. We coudn't have had a better time, the weather was very good and we were able to get out every day. Firstly to Helmsley, then York and finally a walk around the Easingwold environs with a guide of walks kindly provided by the landlady. The food was more than adequate and the quality was excellent. The inclusive booking of dinner, bed and breakfats gave us free reign on the a la carte menu, this together with seeming personal attentiom from the landlady resulted in a memerable stay which we intend tio repeat.

We took a 3 day booking at the 'George' with the specific intention of visiting Castle Howard at Christmas. On our arrival we were shown to our room overlooking the Market Square by a very pleasant young lady. We found the hotel to be very efficiently run, all members of staff being extremely helpful and friendly, nothing being too much trouble. Our room was very clean, warm and comfortable. The food quality at breakfast and dinner was excellent, always hot. A great place to stay. We plan to return in the spring. By the way Castle Howard was brilliant.

From the beginnig we were experiencing difficulties over our arrival time including the possiblility of arriving at 2 am at one stage - but nothing phased the proprieter and his staff. Sandwiches would have been provided in the room for our arrival if we had arrived in the middole of the night!! At the last minute we were able to get away promptly and so could avail ourselves of dinner after all. We had a double en-sutie room above the bar which was very nice - when we got used to the sloping floor. The food was excellent and very good value for money.

After a journey from France, we stopped at the George. The welcome was friendly, the rooms as expected though the age of the hotel clearly made access to rooms rather less logical, a very good menu with three options for dining areas and a pleasant bar. This provided a restful night after a hectic day travelling. We have advised friends of our excellent experience. The cost was very reasonable for what we had.

We recently spent a weekend at the George . From the time we arrived till the time we left everything was lovely. The room was large, clean and contained everything you could want (including ladies a mirror near enough to the hairdryer so you can see when doing your hair) very rare!!! The meals were excellent and all the staff very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to return.

An 'old fashioned pub' that offers modern day facilities without the 'Plastic makeover' that has ruined many a tradional Inn
almost to the point of extinction.
Hosts that truly make you feel welcome from the minute you enter their establishment and for the duration of your visit.
A menu that excels itself in quality, quantity, variety and value.
Accomodation that is both warm and welcoming.
A true 'Village style' location but only a short trip away from the beauty of York and the splendour of Yorkshire itself.
With 'Characterful locals' and traditional ales, what more could anyone desire?

Will we return ? Without a doubt !

As always we were made most welcome. The room was clean, well maintained and fully serviced during our stay. The staff at breakfast and in the restaurant in an evening were attentive without being intrusive and the food was excellent with very generious portions. Ideally located for exploring Yorkshire or visiting York.
Our visit was a mix of Business and Holiday and seeing old friends

The food was superb and such a choice. The staff have that real 'can do' attitude and the owners, Kay and Michael, were just the most hospitable we've found...great fun too. At the time of our stay I was on a special medical diet and the chef bent over backwards to produce very tasty meals from a VERY bland menu that I was allowed at the time...top marks to the chef!

Kay, gave us so much information on York and what we should see and do that it saved us hours and we tackled our sightseeing like locals. We're going again in the Spring to avail of the lovely walks close by and have recommended this venue highly to our friends. You're not taking a chance staying at this lovely 18th century Inn...it's got a 21st century welcome!

We look forward to the day we can make a return visit. Thank you once again for a wonderful stay at The George. The room was wonderful and we were made to feel so welcome by all the staff. We love visiting the area and can honestly say we would consider relocating to North Yorkshire in the not too distant future.

Thank you all for the incredible show of care and consideration over the past week. You have no idea how much this has meant to us both. Of course the Yorkshire puddings were top notch! And the rest of the menu was a Four Star culinary experience. You are THE BEST.

An 18th century coaching inn of character with open fires, a wealth of beams & horse brasses, standing in the cobbled square of this pretty Georgian market town. The George is a friendly, family-run Inn, enjoying an excellent reputation for good food in both our Restaurant & Courtyard Bar, together with some fine wines & real ales.

For those who enjoy browsing, Easingwold is full of antique treasures, whilst being only a short drive away from the centre of York with its many historic attractions.

Accommodation

Bedrooms at The George have en-suite facilities. Some are traditionally furnished, some are designed in a more modern style. Each room has a colour television and radio, direct-dial telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities on a welcome tray. Wi-Fi is available throughout most of the hotel.

Restaurant

The George's cosy oak-beamed Market Place Restaurant offers a wide range of dishes from its menu. We also serve a traditional one, two or three course Sunday lunch. Coffee is served in the relaxing atmosphere of our residents' lounge, with its antique kitchen range. Parties and special occasion dinners are a speciality.

The original open Courtyard is now an attractive area where a wide selection of freshly prepared Bar Meals are served. An emphasis is put on fresh locally sourced ingredients.

The Bar in The George has evolved over the years with the removal of walls and small rooms into a series of connected areas. A fine selection of real ales is served, including locally brewed beers pulled straight from casks conditioned in our cellars. Additional winter warmth is provided by open log fires in the bar and lounge areas.

Galtres Fitness Centre

Fully air conditioned, state of the art community fitness centre with a wide range of cardiovascular and resistance equipment within a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. As a resident of The George Hotel, you are entitled to use the Galtres Fitness Centre during your stay which, though under seperate managament, is adjacent to the hotel!

Location & Things to do in York

The George is situated in Easingwold, just off the A19 trunk road, and is a splendid base for exploring the area. The City of York, North York Moors, the Howardian Hills, the Dales and many hamlets made famous in James Herriot's popular tales are almost on our doorstep.

Castle Howard of 'Brideshead Revisited' fame is close by and many attractions of the East Coast, The Dales and North Yorkshire Moors National Parks are less than an hour's drive away.

Easingwold boasts many sporting facilities and an attractive 18-hole golf course is less than a mile away.

Charles I granted a charter to Easingwold to hold a free market every Friday and two annual wakes or fairs and Easingwold continues to do so to this day. It's as pleasurable to wander around stalls in the Market Place as it is to browse in the numerous antique shops in the town.

The nearby Tourist Information Centre has leaflets with details of the town and maps of local country walks - you can find out many fascinating details about the attractive Georgian buildings which surround the cobbled Market Square.
